We've had a few changes around here the last few weeks. Sadly we lost Josue and Laura (our special pioneer couple). We were all sad to see them go but i guess things can't stay the same forever. Their replacements showed up about a week later and so far so good. He is also a sub. CO so they spent a week here then were gone for a week and now back again. I guess it's been a big change for them as well. The nice part for me is he speaks a little english. Self taught. Anyway they were nice enough to give me a ride home two fridays ago from preaching in the next town over when all of the sudden half way home the car staled. It started again only to stall again two minutes later and of course as he has is head under the hood, it starts to pour rain. Poor guy has a car full of sisters and there is nothing he can do. What to do when you don't know what to do? Call Hector. He's an elder in the hall that seams to be able to fix anything. So a little over an hour later and Hector shows up. Two mins under the hood and we're on our way.
It's been a long couple of months seeing as a lot of people were back in their own country. For a little while there, we were the only english speaking people in the hall. I guess the good part about that is i was forced to speak spanish and it seams to be paying off. Plus levi and I have been partnered off a few time in service and when that happens there is no one to fall back on so you just have to ask them to be patient and just do it.
Now that summer is over the Hall is starting to fill up again. We have a new couple from the states here for 3 months to check things out. They have 3 kids 5,7 and 9. Plus we were very excited to see Ben, Nikea, Noah, and Jaguar finally show up. It's always nice to have family around. Especially when they are staying someplace with internet and a pool. Haha. They didn't have much time to settle in before the boys had to start school. It's nice for them because there are three people in the hall that have created a school for 5 of the witness kids that are all about the same age.
We've discovered lately that it is a good thing to be know as a witness in this town. When most Dominicans see young white people living here they assume you are here for the wrong reasons. There is a new law in town that has made loud bikes illegal. So Levis bike was confiscated, along with half the town, until he changed his pipe. The head guys was standing over levi while he was changing the pipe and talking to another guy saying how he hates all these gringos who come to the D.R. for drugs, drinking and women. We'll the guys didn't know levi could understand him until levi assured him that that was not why he was here and that he is a witness and been married to the same canadian girl for almost 9 years. Well needless to say the guys stopped talking bad about Levi once he knew who he was. A few days later one of our newer neighbors called levi over to fined out what we were doing here in the country. He's never really said anything to us before and i couldn't even get a hi out of him. I guess he also thought we were here to party. So Levi explained why we are here and he was very happy to hear it. Now he says hello and is much friendlier.
Levi has found his Honda Cub project number 2 and again he sold it before he even finished it. He sold it almost before he even started it. I must say i am a little jealous of this one. It's looking really good. Maybe one day i'll get to keep one. The selling of the cub is not the hard part, it finding one for sale that's hard.
A few days ago i decided it was time to get some screens on the windows seeing as it's starting to get cooler at night and it's nice to keep the windows open in the evening. With out screens on the windows the house gets full of misquotes as soon a evening comes around. So i get the screens up and all is good. The next day i spent the whole morning doing laundry and that afternoon i folded it all up and was putting it away. I reach into the closet and separate the hanging cloths so i can use the top of the dresser and right there sitting in the window in the closet is a giant tarantula. Yup big and hairy just sleeping on the sill. My first thought was thank goodness i put that screen up. Just think if i hadn't it would crawled right into our cloths and who know when or how we would have found it. Levi got home and we poked it a few time trying to figure out what to do. We didn't want to get to close so we went and got one of the kids in the neighborhood and he got a stick and killed it for us. Yup an 11 year old saved us and all is good.
Zach and Jordan made it here safe and sound on saturday and for the first time in a long time all the Moodie boy are in the same place at the same time. We spent half the day walking yesterday. We walked to the beach for breakfast then farther down the beach to swim ( and just so you know Greg there was no diapers Haha) back to house to change and then to Lindo for some groceries and back to the house for lunch. After lunch we decided to head to Ben and Keas for a swim in the pool but everyone was tired of walking so levi have to play taxi man and make a few trips on the bike. Before they leave we'll get them on a moto taxi. You can't come here and not take a concho at least once.
