It is amazing how cut off from the world you feel when you do not have the internet here. Or maybe it's just because i couldn't watch my shows for a week. hehe. It was down for a week but finally back up and running. We have also been waiting since we moved in for our tv to be fixed so we can get video game night underway. The property manager finally picked it up yesterday so we'll see what happens.
Levi is starting to feel better. It took the convincing of almost everyone in the hall to go to the doctor but he finally went on monday. You have to take a "sample" to the lab to find out what kind of ameba you have and then to the doctor to get a prescription. Lets just say i will never look at a salsa jar the same way again. Anyway Levi went to the wrong place and the Cuban doctor right away was trying to hook him up to an IV and wanting insurance. The doctor was pretty much just seeing dollar signs so levi called one of the sister for help and got it all straightened out and to the lab. At least the doctor he went to next for the prescription was Canadian so no problems there. I guess they have a clinic here that is run by the government and is all American and Canadian doctors and best of all, it's free. Now levi is just really tired and weak. Some people say the medication makes you sicker then the amebas. Hopefully he gets some strength back by this weekend because we are heading to Santiago for the English assembly. Yay English.
The last week i've been having to take a concho everywhere with levi being sick and i'm getting tired of it so i decided that it's time to get on the bike for myself. So the other day ( with some help from levi) i went out and rode the bike up and down the beach road. I even doubled Levi. The watchi man had a pretty good laugh when levi jumped on. He must have thought " oh this is going to be a disaster ". Actually so did i, but i think i did pretty well thank you very much.
It's been pretty rainy here this week with the hurricane hitting the other side of the island so needless to say it was a wet ride to the meeting last night. Sitting at the meeting, watching the water drip through the roof makes all the work that's been going on here seem so worth it. Everyone one was thinking how nice it will be when we have our own nice, dry, clean place to meet. Yesterday was also a big cleaning day. All the sisters broke off into two groups to clean the two places where the workers will be staying. I think our group got the cleaner of the two. It belongs to a study that is donating it to use for the build. The other is a house that is owned by a brother in Nagua. It was in pretty rough shape so there is a lot of work to do. When we finished our house we had to go to where the rebar is being stored and use wire brushes to scrape all the rust off. Seriously, what i would have given to have a sand blaster or grinder but how worth it it will be. You get some pretty funny looks from the locals when they see a bunch of white girls cleaning rebar.
We have 4 new sisters in the hall, 3 from Quebec and 1 from Germany. Plus a bunch are returning this weekend from Canada and the States so the hall is starting to fill up again.
I actually wrote this post yesterday but the internet went out again so i had to wait to post it.
