I guess i left off with Levi and his Honda Cub project. I've got pictures of bits and pieces of the bike but it sold so fast that we didn't even get a picture of the final product. Next time we see the guy riding around town we'll have to stop him and get a picture. Levi just got it back together and was taking it out for a test ride to make sure everything was working right when a guy stopped by that levi had been talking to. Next thing i know, the bike is gone and i didn't even get to ride it. Now he's on the search for the next one.
The side of the Cub
Handle barsLevis starting to get known around town as the gringo who paints so he's starting to get a lot more painting job. Hopefully the work keeps coming.
8 x 4 foot sign we both painted for a hotel in town. We had to have it done and delivered in two days. They were so happy that levi now has more signs to pant for them.
I promise this is a real picture and not a fake background. We went for a walk on the beach the other night and the sky was so pretty. On our way home from the beach we soon remembered why we don't go after sunset. By the time we got back to the bike we were so covered in bug bites that we spent the rest of the night going out of our minds. We decided that we need to spend more time at the beach but definitely earlier in the day.But for this weekend all is on hold cause we are in Santo Domingo for the convention. Most everyone left for the capital a day or two ahead of time but we decided to save some money and leave Friday morning on the gua gua(taxi van) that one of the brothers arranged. So we were told that the gua gua will pick us up at the end of our road at 6:30 in the morning but be ready by 6:00 and he would call us when he was on the was. So i set the alarm for 5 thinking that will be lots of time. Well the alarm didn't go off and we wake up at 5:10. I'm thinking no problem i still have 50 minutes. Next thing i know it's 5:15 and the phone is ringing. "the gua gua will be there in 10 minutes". WHAT!!!!! We both jump and make a run for it. Good thing i had everything packed and ready to go. We throw on some cloths, brush our teeth, grab our bags and run for the door. Now it's 5:30 with no coffee and no timmys in sight. We pick up the rest along the road and make the very squishy 2 1/2 hr drive to the capital. Did i mention it's a spanish convention. By noon i'm so tired and doing everything i can to catch as much spanish as possible. Also it's pretty fun to see all the kids looking at levi and his red hair. This is our first spanish assembly and the first time not renting a car. We we're told there would be no problem getting a taxi after the assembly cause they come right in. At the end of the day i am exhausted and my brain is mush from all the spanish. We make our way out to get a taxi but there are non. A ask a sister from the hall and she says you have to call for a taxi. I'm tired and all i want to do is go to bed but we have no idea how to get to our hotel. Oh and did i mention we forgot to write down the name and address of our hotel. Thank goodness we were at the assembly because you know you can always count on someone helping you. We found the number of the hotel in our phone and a brother call us a taxi and sent us out to the road with a young brother to help translate because by this time we can hardly say hello. But all is good and we made it to the hotel. We ate and then lights out early for us.
The same taxi came and picked us up this morning and was suppose to come back and get us. Well the sessions went 20 minutes over time and i had to rush to the road to find the taxi and ask him to wait cause levi was busy handing out books. I run out and there is a sea of taxis waiting but i can't find our guy anywhere. I meet up with levi and he calls cause we were worried that he got tired of waiting and left but nope he didn't even come. Thankfully another taxi came by and we got a ride. Hopefully he shows up tomorrow morning like he said he would. Talk about a quick learning curve. After two days of spanish i needed a break so we went Hard Rock Cafe for a taste of home and english music videos. Now i'm sitting in bed and watching english t.v. Trying to get my english fix while i can.
I forgot to take pictures of the outside of the hall but i'll do that tomorrow.
Anyway as some of you already know we'll be losing Josue and Laura ( special pioneer couple in our hall) soon. It seems baby fever has reached the D.R. They are heading for the US for a few years so now we are waiting for their replacements. We're sad to see them go but you gotta do what you gotta do.
I know i must be forgetting something but i too tired to think anymore. It's time for bed and rest my brain for one more full day of spanish. Then it's home to sleep for three days. Hasta luego.
